Chair’s Annual Report 2024/25
Introduction
Reflecting on the past 12 months, I experienced a mix of emotions, some causing concern and others providing optimism. Elections in the UK and the US have both played their part, both positively and negatively. Wars in Europe and beyond have played their part, and they do affect our local economy as they impact how people feel and their confidence in spending their hard-earned money in our members’ businesses. So, that’s the backdrop to the year, but what about our achievements and the things that we should feel positive about? Here are some of the highlights…
Annual General Meeting
Berwick Chamber of Trade & Commerce will soon hold its Annual General Meeting. All members are welcome. Come and learn about our work and contribute to our future priorities.
Family Day - VE Day 80th Anniversary
Come and join us to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of VE Day and the peace that it has brought to us all. Our event will be based in the Town Hall and will include:
1940s music with performances from the Boulmer Military Wives and the Border Tarts.
Best dressed Shop Window Competition with a chance to win £100 vouchers to spend in Berwick’s lovely businesses.
Photo dress up. Get your photograph taken dressed in the style of the 1940s.
Try your hand at Clippy Matting. A sustainable way to use old fabric during the war.
Weaving. Watch a demonstration of the traditions of weaving on a small loom to show how it is done. There will be opportunities to try this too.
Light refreshments will be available too.

Business Sponsorship Opportunity – LS Lowry exhibition and leaflet
The Maltings (Berwick) Trust is organizing a new exhibition of works by LS Lowry at The Granary Gallery from 26 May – 13 October 2024. The exhibition developed in partnership with The Lowry, Salford, will include 20 original works by Lowry exploring his relationship with Berwick and his lifelong fascination with the sea.
Late Night Christmas Shopping
On Friday, 1 December, retail members of the Chamber of Trade in Berwick will be open from 4–7pm for late night Christmas Shopping, and we’d love you to join us.
Tweed Salmon Queen Donation
After a meeting with organisers of the Tweed Salmon Queen, the Berwick Chamber of Trade were delighted to donate £1000 to help towards the cost of next year’s event.
Berwick Cargo Cycle Event
Berwick Upon Tweed Community Cargo cycle project are looking for businesses and local organisations to be part of a new community cargo cycle project in Berwick.
